LIVE ON ME

I encountered a bagpipe band on a street in Pakistan. A bagpipe is a very unique instrument not only in tone but also in functions. It can make harmony itself, which is different from other wood wind instruments that can play only the melody. A bagpipe attributes this fact to its wind bag (or pocket).

A bagpipe disembogue the air into the wind bag through its blowpipe. And then, the performer pushes the bag under his or her armpit with the upper arm and the air flows into the chanter (melody tube which plays the melody), and into the drone tube. Finally notes are made. Especially, the long drone tube over the performer’s shoulder can successive low notes, so a bagpipe can make harmony.

The wind bag is not associated with melody but it is indispensible for producing notes. It doesn’t make any sound itself but helps other parts make sounds. It plays an important role for other parts of the bagpipe to get glorified not show off itself like the people of God’s Kingdom. In short, it’s a life that shows the spirit of ‘Live on Me.’
