The total number of verses in Matthew 1:18 to 2:23 and Luke 1:5 to 2:40 is 166. These verses deal with the conception and birth of John the Baptist, the conception and birth of Jesus, and the various events that happened to baby Jesus thereafter. Today we imagine that there is a heavenly broadcasting station (HBS). Now we have the Angel Gabriel as HBS anchor hosting a Christmas special audio drama titled “HBS Stars!”

Act 1 Gabriel and Zechariah
Angel Gabriel:
This is HBS. Hello HBS viewers, how are you? I have visited planet Earth four times in our galaxy’s solar system. On my first and second visits, I met the prophet Daniel, on my third visit I met High Priest Zechariah, and on my fourth visit, I met the Virgin Mary. Today, I would like to first tell you about my meeting with Zechariah. This meeting took place about 15 months ago. Zechariah and his wife are like this.
In the days of Herod, king of Judea, there was a priest named Zechariah, of the division of Abijah. And he had a wife from the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elizabeth. And they were both righteous before God, walking blamelessly in all the commandments and statutes of the Lord. But they had no child, because Elizabeth was barren, and both were advanced in years. (Luke 1:5-7).
Just before I appeared to Zechariah, he carried out his priestly duties this way.
Now while he was serving as priest before God when his division was on duty, according to the custom of the priesthood, he was chosen by lot to enter the temple of the Lord and burn incense. And the whole multitude of the people were praying outside at the hour of incense. (Luke 1:8-10).
When I appeared before Zechariah, he reacted as follows:
And there appeared to him an angel of the Lord standing on the right side of the altar of incense. And Zechariah was troubled when he saw him, and fear fell upon him. (Luke 1:11-12).
I said this to Zechariah:
Do not be afraid, Zechariah, for your prayer has been heard, and your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you shall call his name John. And you will have joy and gladness, and many will rejoice at his birth, for he will be great before the Lord. And he must not drink wine or strong drink, and he will be filled with the Holy Spirit, even from his mother’s womb. And he will turn many of the children of Israel to the Lord their God, and he will go before him in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just, to make ready for the Lord a people prepared.
(Luke 1:13-17).
Zechariah:
How shall I know this? For I am an old man, and my wife is advanced in years. (Luke 1:18).
Angel Gabriel:
I am Gabriel. I stand in the presence of God, and I was sent to speak to you and to bring you this good news. And behold, you will be silent and unable to speak until the day that these things take place, because you did not believe my words, which will be fulfilled in their time. (Luke 1:19- 20).
So, the following situation developed.
And the people were waiting for Zechariah, and they were wondering at his delay in the temple. And when he came out, he was unable to speak to them, and they realized that he had seen a vision in the temple. And he kept making signs to them and remained mute. And when his time of service was ended, he went to his home. After these days his wife Elizabeth conceived, and for five months she kept herself hidden, saying, “Thus the Lord has done for me in the days when he looked on me, to take away my reproach among people.”
(Luke 1:21-25).
In fact, from then on, Zechariah and Elizabeth became stars of HBS here in heaven.
Act 2 Gabriel and Mary
Angel Gabriel:
Dear HBS viewers, Zacharias and Elizabeth have a new star on HBS. She is His Virgin Mary. I met this Maria about 9 months ago.
In the sixth month, the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. And the virgin’s name was Mary (Luke 1:26-27).
I went to Mary and greeted her like this.
Greetings, O favored one, the Lord is with you (Luke 1:28)!
Mary’s first reaction at that time was:
But she was greatly troubled at the saying, and tried to discern what sort of greeting this might be. (Luke 1:29).
Angel Gabriel:
Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. And the Lord God will give to him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end. (Luke 1:30-33).
Mary:
How will this be, since I am a virgin(Luke 1:34)?
Angel Gabriel:
The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore, the child to be born will be called holy—the Son of God. And behold, your relative Elizabeth in her old age has also conceived a son, and this is the sixth month with her who was called barren. For nothing will be impossible with God.” And Mary said, “Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her. (Luke 1:35-38a).
I immediately returned to this heaven (Luke 2:38b). From then on, Mary, along with Zachariah and Elizabeth, became stars of this HBS. The first thing Mary did after that was this.
In those days Mary arose and went with haste into the hill country, to a town in Judah, and she entered the house of Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth. (Luke 1:39-40).
The incident that occurred in Elizabeth’s womb when she welcomed Mary is a very well-known incident to our HBS viewers.
And when Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary, the baby leaped in her womb. And Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit, and she exclaimed with a loud cry, “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb! And why is this granted to me that the mother of my Lord should come to me? For behold, when the sound of your greeting came to my ears, the baby in my womb leaped for joy. And blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfillment of what was spoken to her from the Lord.” (Luke 1:41-45).
Mary:
My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for he has looked on the humble estate of his servant. For behold, from now on all generations will call me blessed; for he who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is his name. And his mercy is for those who fear him from generation to generation. He has shown strength with his arm; he has scattered the proud in the thoughts of their hearts; he has brought down the mighty from their thrones and exalted those of humble estate; he has filled the hungry with good things, and the rich he has sent away empty. He has helped his servant Israel, in remembrance of his mercy, as he spoke to our fathers, to Abraham and to his offspring forever (Luke 1:46-55).
Angel Gabriel:
After Mary stayed in their home for three months, she returned to his home in Nazareth.
And Mary remained with her about three months and returned to her home (Luke 1:56).
Mary was betrothed to Joseph. Joseph, like Mary, is a descendant of David. However, Mary heard the news of the conception of God the Son through me, but she could not even tell Joseph. Mary went straight to the house of Zechariah and Elizabeth in the Jewish village and stayed there for three months. Now Joseph had no idea that his fiancée Mary was pregnant until she returned to Nazareth. Therefore, the following situation developed.
Now the birth of Jesus Christ took place in this way. When his mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together, she was found to be with child from the Holy Spirit. And her husband Joseph, being a just man and unwilling to put her to shame, resolved to divorce her quietly. (Matthew 1:18-19).
Finally, the following happened to Joseph.
But as he considered these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.” All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet: “Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel” (which means, God with us). When Joseph woke from sleep, he did as the angel of the Lord commanded him: he took his wife, but knew her not until she had given birth to a son (Matthew 1:20-25a).
Joseph, like Mary, is a truly precious person. He had a very big mission to do for Mary and baby Jesus. Now again let us turn our attention to Zechariah and Elizabeth. They were about nine months pregnant when Mary left their home. About fifteen days later, Elizabeth gave birth to her son. She was very old at that time, but she was very strong, and she gave birth to a strong son.
Now the time came for Elizabeth to give birth, and she bore a son. And her neighbors and relatives heard that the Lord had shown great mercy to her, and they rejoiced with her.
(Luke 1:57-58).
It was the eighth day after Zechariah and Elizabeth’s son was born. Just then a very interesting thing happened.
And on the eighth day they came to circumcise the child. And they would have called him Zechariah after his father, but his mother answered, “No; he shall be called John.” And they said to her, “None of your relatives is called by this name.” And they made signs to his father, inquiring what he wanted him to be called. And he asked for a writing tablet and wrote, “His name is John.” And they all wondered. And immediately his mouth was opened and his tongue loosed, and he spoke, blessing God. And fear came on all their neighbors. And all these things were talked about through all the hill country of Judea, and all who heard them laid them up in their hearts, saying, “What then will this child be?” For the hand of the Lord was with him. (Luke 1:59-66).
After completing a period of silence for 9 months and 15 days, Zechariah praised God like this:
Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, for he has visited and redeemed his people and has raised up a horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David, as he spoke by the mouth of his holy prophets from of old, that we should be saved from our enemies and from the hand of all who hate us; to show the mercy promised to our fathers and to remember his holy covenant, the oath that he swore to our father Abraham, to grant us that we, being delivered from the hand of our enemies, might serve him without fear, in holiness and righteousness before him all our days. And you, child, will be called the prophet of the Most High; for you will go before the Lord to prepare his ways, to give knowledge of salvation to his people in the forgiveness of their sins, because of the tender mercy of our God, whereby the sunrise shall visit us from on high to give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace. (Luke 1:67-79).
Act 3 Baby Jesus and Shepherds
Angel Gabriel:
Dear HBS viewers, it has been about six months since John was born to Zechariah and Elizabeth. He is growing up receiving love from his parents and several neighbors. He will prepare the way for our Son, God Jesus, to carry out his duties as Messiah in the future. Dear HBS viewers, this time my fellow angel visited Bethlehem, Israel of the world, accompanied by countless angels. Mary and her husband Joseph, who conceived Jesus, the Son of God, left Nazareth and arrived in Bethlehem, Judea, to stay there. Here’s why:
In those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered. This was the first registration when Quirinius was governor of Syria. And all went to be registered, each to his own town. And Joseph also went up from Galilee, from the town of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, to be registered with Mary, his betrothed, who was with child. (Luke 2:1-5).
God revealed through the mouth of his prophet Micah about 700 years ago:
But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah, who are too little to be among the clans of Judah, from you shall come forth for me one who is to be ruler in Israel, whose coming forth is from of old, from ancient days. (Micah 5:2).
It was to fulfill God’s purpose that Caesar Augustus, emperor of the Roman Empire, issued a decree to register all people in the world. Of course, the emperor himself is completely unaware of this fact. Bethlehem is the hometown of King David, who founded the Kingdom of Judah. So, King David’s descendants returned from all over the world to register their families as Caesar had commanded. Mary and Joseph were among them. However, because there was no inn in the village of Bethlehem, they stayed in a stable and gave birth to Jesus. Right now, our Jesus is wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a manger.
And while they were there, the time came for her to give birth. And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn. (Luke 2:6-7).
Now let us focus on the shepherds who walked through the heavenly host and were met by the messenger of our Lord who visited the shepherds in the fields near Bethlehem.
And in the same region there were shepherds out in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And an angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were filled with great fear. (Luke 2:8-9).
Messenger of the Lord:
Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger. (Luke 2:10-12).
Countless hosts of heaven:
Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased
(Luke 2:14)!
Shepherd 1:
I think the angels of the Lord and the heavenly hosts have returned to heaven.
Shepherd 2:
This is truly amazing.
Shepherd 3:
Now let us go to Bethlehem and see what the angel of the Lord has revealed to us.
Shepherd 4:
Yes, let’s hurry and run together.
Angel Gabriel:
The shepherds ran to the stable. The shepherds went and confirmed the sign as the angel of the Lord had told them. The sign is none other than their Savior, Christ the Lord, lying in the manger. Finally, the shepherds explained everything to Joseph and Mary. It was a truly rewarding and meaningful moment for Mary and Joseph. Especially Mary engraved in her heart all the words the shepherds said to her. It was also a truly valuable opportunity for shepherds.
When the angels went away from them into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let us go over to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has made known to us.” And they went with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby lying in a manger. And when they saw it, they made known the saying that had been told them concerning this child. And all who heard it wondered at what the shepherds told them. But Mary treasured up all these things, pondering them in her heart. And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen, as it had been told them. (Luke 2:15-20).
Shepherd 1:
This is how God the Son was born, but no one is paying attention.
Shepherd 2:
Yes. So, he is lying in a manger in a stable. But God sent his messenger with a host of angels to tell us about it.
Shepherd 3:
If so, it would mean that God is watching us along with the spiritual beings in heaven.
Shepherd 4:
Yes. We cannot see God, nor can God’s angels. But God and the angels are still watching us.
Shepherd 1:
That is why the angel of the Lord came to us with the heavenly army. Thanks to them, we were able to remain under the light of heaven’s glory.
Shepherd 2:
In this world, only the rich, learned, and powerful are important, but that doesn’t seem to be the case in heaven.
Shepherd 3:
Every night we couldn’t sleep and looked at the stars in the sky. And we thought of ourselves as worthless people. However, I think we need to be conscious of ourselves as stars of heaven.
Shepherd 4:
That’s right. We are the stars of heaven.
Angel Gabriel:
These shepherds are the true stars of our HBS. That’s why HBS’s spotlight shined on those shepherds. The Old Testament prophet Daniel declared:
And those who are wise shall shine like the brightness of the sky above; and those who turn many to righteousness, like the stars forever and ever (Dan. 12:3).
I told you earlier that I met the prophet Daniel during my first and second trips to Earth. The first meeting with him occurred in the third year of King Belshazzar of the Babylonian Empire. It was about 550 years ago. Soon after he saw a vision of a ram and a he goat.
When I, Daniel, had seen the vision, I sought to understand it. And behold, there stood before me one having the appearance of a man. And I heard a man’s voice between the banks of the Ulai, and it called, “Gabriel, make this man understand the vision.” So he came near where I stood. And when he came, I was frightened and fell on my face. But he said to me, “Understand, O son of man, that the vision is for the time of the end.” (Daniel 8:16).
The second meeting between Daniel and I took place in the first year of Darius the son of Ahasuerus, by descent a Mede, who was made king over the realm of the Chaldeans. This was around 539 B.C., about 11 years after their first meeting.
while I was speaking in prayer, the man Gabriel, whom I had seen in the vision at the first, came to me in swift flight at the time of the evening sacrifice. He made me understand, speaking with me and saying, “O Daniel, I have now come out to give you insight and understanding. At the beginning of your pleas for mercy a word went out, and I have come to tell it to you, for you are greatly loved. Therefore, consider the word and understand the vision. (Dan. 9:21-23).
This is the core of God’s word that I delivered to Daniel twice. God sends his Messiah at the appointed time to save his people from their sins. And through my third business trip, I preached the word of God to Zechariah and his wife, who would conceive John, who would prepare the way for the Messiah, and through my fourth business trip, to the Virgin Mary, who would conceive the Messiah through her Holy Spirit.
Act 4 Jesus’ 8th and 40th days of life
Angel Gabriel:
Hello HBS viewers, how are you? Today is the 40th day since God the Son was born as a human being. First, we would like to inform you that the following happened on the 8th day of Jesus’ birth.
And at the end of eight days, when he was circumcised, he was called Jesus, the name given by the angel before he was conceived in the womb. And when the time came for their purification according to the Law of Moses, they brought him up to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord (Luke 2:21).
She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins. (Matthew 1:21).
We all already know that God the Son lives under the name of Jesus after His incarnation. But people around the world are not like that. From now on, the name Jesus will become increasingly well-known to them. Many workers will continue to be raised in various parts of the world to work hard for this work. I look forward to their performance.
Today is the 40th day after the birth of Jesus and is the day when the purification ceremony of Jesus is held. According to the Law of Moses, the purification ceremony occurs on the 80th day after birth for women and the 40th day for men. Joseph and Mary left Bethlehem and arrived at the temple in Jerusalem to perform the purification ceremony for Jesus.
And when the time came for their purification according to the Law of Moses, they brought him up to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord (as it is written in the Law of the Lord, “Every male who first opens the womb shall be called holy to the Lord”) and to offer a sacrifice according to what is said in the Law of the Lord, “a pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons.” (Luke 2:22-24).
There are two people in the temple in Jerusalem who were desperately waiting for the Messiah to restore Israel. Now one of them is like this.
Now there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon, and this man was righteous and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him. And it had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he had seen the Lord’s Christ. And he came in the Spirit into the temple, and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him according to the custom of the Law, he took him up in his arms and blessed God (Luke 2:25-28).
Simeon:
Lord, now you are letting your servant depart in peace, according to your word; for my eyes have seen your salvation that you have prepared in the presence of all peoples, a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and for glory to your people Israel. (Luke 2:29-32).
Angel Gabriel:
This is truly an amazing scene. When Joseph and Mary heard what Simeon said about Jesus, they were amazed. Simeon blessed them.
Simeon:
Behold, this child is appointed for the fall and rising of many in Israel, and for a sign that is opposed (and a sword will pierce through your own soul also), so that thoughts from many hearts may be revealed (Luke 2: 34b-35).
Angel Gabriel:
Simeon, like the shepherds in Bethlehem, identified the baby Jesus and praised God. In the case of the shepherds, such amazing work was accomplished through a special message from the Lord’s messenger, but in the case of Simeon, it was accomplished under the direction and inspiration of the Holy Spirit. Thankfully, there is another one like them in the temple in Jerusalem.
And there was a prophetess, Anna, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was advanced in years, having lived with her husband seven years from when she was a virgin, and then as a widow until she was eighty-four. She did not depart from the temple, worshiping with fasting and prayer night and day. And coming up at that very hour she began to give thanks to God and to speak of him to all who were waiting for the redemption of Jerusalem. And when they had performed everything according to the Law of the Lord, they returned into Galilee, to their own town of Nazareth. (Luke 2:36-38).
It was a truly precious event for Mary and Joseph to have such a special meeting with Simeon and Anna in the temple in Jerusalem. Mary and Joseph will take baby Jesus back to Bethlehem and stay there for a while longer.
Act 5 From Bethlehem through Egypt to Nazareth
Angel Gabriel:
Dear HBS viewers, I would like to tell you about the status of the Son Jesus.
And when they had performed everything according to the Law of the Lord, they returned into Galilee, to their own town of Nazareth. And the child grew and became strong, filled with wisdom. And the favor of God was upon him (Luke 2:39-40).
However, there were many processes before Jesus became like this. On the 40th day, after Jesus performed a purification ceremony in the temple in Jerusalem, he returned to Bethlehem in the arms of Joseph and Mary. While they were living in Bethlehem, others wanted to visit Jesus. Let’s pay attention to who they are.
Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the east came to Jerusalem (Matthew 2:1)
Magi:
Where is he who has been born king of the Jews? For we saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him (Matthew 2:2).
Angel Gabriel:
This is the reaction of King Herod and the people of Jerusalem upon hearing the Magi’s question.
When Herod the king heard this, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him (Matthew 2:3-4a).
King Herod:
Where was the Christ to be born (Matthew 2:4b)?
All the high priests and scribes of the people:
In Bethlehem of Judea, for so it is written by the prophet: “ ‘And you, O Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for from you shall come a ruler who will shepherd my people Israel.’ ”(Matthew 2:5-6).
Angel Gabriel:
King Herod had the wise men from the East come before him again. Just before telling them to go to Bethlehem, he asked them specifically when the star appeared (Matthew 2:7).
King Herod:
Go and search diligently for the child, and when you have found him, bring me word, that I too may come and worship him. (Matthew 2:8).
The Magi’s next move is as follows.
After listening to the king, they went on their way. And behold, the star that they had seen when it rose went before them until it came to rest over the place where the child was. When they saw the star, they rejoiced exceedingly with great joy. And going into the house, they saw the child with Mary his mother, and they fell down and worshiped him. Then, opening their treasures, they offered him gifts, gold and frankincense and myrrh (Matthew 2:9-11).
After that, the wise men did not return to Herod. Here’s why:
And being warned in a dream not to return to Herod, they departed to their own country by another way (Matthew 2:12).
As soon as the wise men left, Joseph and Mary had to take baby Jesus on a long journey. Let’s pay attention to what the reason is and where their destination is.
Now when they had departed, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, “Rise, take the child and his mother, and flee to Egypt, and remain there until I tell you, for Herod is about to search for the child, to destroy him.” And he rose and took the child and his mother by night and departed to Egypt and remained there until the death of Herod. This was to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet, “Out of Egypt I called my son.” (Matthew 2:13-15).
So, what happened to Herod?
Then Herod, when he saw that he had been tricked by the wise men, became furious, and he sent and killed all the male children in Bethlehem and in all that region who were two years old or under, according to the time that he had ascertained from the wise men (Matthew 2:16).
This murder incident is related to what God spoke through the prophet Jeremiah.
Then was fulfilled what was spoken by the prophet Jeremiah: “A voice was heard in Ramah, weeping and loud lamentation, Rachel weeping for her children; she refused to be comforted, because they are no more.” (Matthew 2:17-18).
So, what happened to Mary and Joseph after they went to Egypt?
But when Herod died, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt, saying, “Rise, take the child and his mother and go to the land of Israel, for those who sought the child’s life are dead.” And he rose and took the child and his mother and went to the land of Israel. But when he heard that Archelaus was reigning over Judea in place of his father Herod, he was afraid to go there, and being warned in a dream he withdrew to the district of Galilee. And he went and lived in a city called Nazareth, so that what was spoken by the prophets might be fulfilled, that he would be called a Nazarene. (Matthew 2:19-23)
Epilogue
The birth of Jesus was not just an earthly event, but a moment when heaven and earth were connected. Through this incident, God showed humanity His love and plan of salvation. Mary and Joseph, Zachariah and Elizabeth, John the Baptist, the shepherds, Grandfather Simeon and Grandmother Anna, the wise men, all these characters were HBS stars along with Jesus Christ.
Likewise, each of us has a unique and important role with Jesus Christ in God’s great plan. We must trust God’s guidance even though our faith journey may sometimes seem uncertain and unpredictable. Our Lord Jesus Himself said this about who are the true stars of HBS in this era.
For I came not to call the righteous, but sinners (Matthew 9:13b).
There will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance (Luke 15:7).
There is joy before the angels of God over one sinner who repents (Luke 15:10).
Apostle Peter expresses the relationship between angels and those who spread the gospel by the Holy Spirit:
It was revealed to them that they were serving not themselves but you, in the things that have now been announced to you through those who preached the good news to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven, things into which angels long to look. (1 Peter 1:12).
Our Father in Heaven, like the shepherds in Bethlehem, we too are extremely weak and lacking from a worldly perspective.
