Open Our Eyes That We May See

A woman dressed in a yellow sari, Pakistani traditional costume, hurries to a church early in the morning. Looking closely, you can see the shadow of another woman holding a kid’s hand. At first glance, it looks like the woman in yellow sari is holding the kid’s hand, but his mother is right behind the woman in yellow.

This kind of optical illusion occurs quite a lot in our daily life. Even when we wake up in the morning stretching and breathing in fresh air, we don’t recognize the Lord, the owner of all things. We think they have always been and will be there for us. A person thinks his accumulated ability and know-how have achieved his success after lots of trial and error in his youth. However, when he has nothing, the situation is in an abyss, and it looks like nothing can help him, the person finally realizes that everything can’t be done without God’s will and permission and all things, so far, could have been fulfilled because God allowed. That’s the moment when illusion and delusion disappear. Right now, behold our Lord who is working for and being with us.

“Then Elisha prayed and said, “O LORD, please open his eyes that he may see.” So the LORD opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw, and behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.”(2Kings 6:17_ ESV)
